Search results often emphasize a nightly rate. Continue far enough to see taxes and mandatory fees, then divide the complete stay total by the number of nights. Use that figure when comparing properties.
Add likely parking, breakfast, transportation, and internet costs. A higher room rate can be the better value when it includes something you would otherwise purchase.
Read the cancellation clock
Write the cancellation deadline in the time zone of the hotel. “One day before arrival” can mean a specific hour, not midnight. Save the confirmation and the cancellation policy displayed at booking.
Prepaid rates can be worthwhile only when the trip is firm and the savings justify losing flexibility. Consider travel insurance separately and read exclusions rather than assuming every disruption is covered.
Confirm important needs directly
If accessibility, connecting rooms, late arrival, or a particular bed arrangement is essential, contact the property and ask how the request is recorded. A booking-platform request may not be a guarantee.
